Christine Kirker

Christine Kirker is a Children's Library Associate with the Carroll
County Public Library (MD). Since joining the library staff in
2005, Christine has developed and presented many programs
for children of all ages, and has written book reviews for the
Carroll County Times. In addition, after receiving a grant from
the Chesapeake Bay Trust, Christine worked with the community
to create a native garden at the library and offered many
educational outreach programs. Christine also launched a
monthly “Art Explorers” program at the library where children
discuss the life of a featured artist and explore his/her
techniques. Uniquely Hand Made is Christine’s latest project,
where clay hands are individually designed representing the
unique spirit of each person, decorated with paints, beads and
designs of the artists' choosing. Some hands are made using
various sign language letters to create teen inspired phrases.
The hands will be used to decorate the library's Young Adult
area. Previously, Christine spent ten years employed at the
University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) as a Research
Analyst for the Office of Institutional Research. She graduated
from UMBC in 1992.
