About Kathy MacMillan
Kathy MacMillan is an American Sign Language interpreter,
instructor, consultant, writer and signing storyteller. She holds
NIC certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf,
and is a Level I certified member of the Sign2Me® Presenters'
Network. She served as the Library/Media Specialist at the
Maryland School for the Deaf, Columbia Campus from 2001 to
2005. Previously she served as the Children’s Services Supervisor
at the Eldersburg Branch of the Carroll County (MD) Public
Library, where she presented hundreds of storytime programs for
all ages. She spent three summers as a children’s performer at
Paramount’s Kings Dominion in Doswell, VA. Since founding
Stories By Hand, Kathy has presented American Sign Language
programs for thousands of children and parents in public
libraries throughout Maryland and Virginia. She also directs
Deaf and Sign Language Camps with Deaf Camps, Inc., and has
taught ASL classes through the Carroll County Department of
Recreation and Parks since early 2004, and at Howard
Community College in Columbia, MD since 2008. Kathy has
published numerous books and articles on topics relating to
American Sign Language. She holds a Master of Library Science
from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of English from the
Catholic University of America, and a Certificate of American
Sign Language Interpreting from the Community College of
Baltimore County. She lives in Owings Mills, MD with her
husband and son.
